The Stack

2002, single-channel video projection, colour, silent, 36 min loop

In The Stack, a homeless sleeper is hidden in the foreground of the composition, while behind him the last rays of a setting sun filter through a jungle of concrete pillars. The magnitude of this event stands in sharp contrast with the narrative of the sleeper. In this work, the complexity of the social problem of homelessness is disguised as an element of the composition within the construction of the image. There is a simultaneous and continuous, yet unclear and undecided narrative between the theatrical (the subject) and the everyday (the evolution of the daylight).
