Homeless Cat
2011, interactive, real-time video synchonised with actual day and night time, silent, endlessMinus the cat served as model for an abandoned cat. You can always find him on the roof outside, looking with big eyes for someone on the inside. Via a small device the cat effectively does see people inside the room and responds according to his loneliness. Similarly, he will lose interest when a lot of people are inside the room as none of those visitors ever seems to be able to let him in. Homeless Cat is not unlike the Japanese ‘Tamagotchi’, the digital pet that needs care but this pet cannot be given care due to the dividing line between inside and outside, us (lucky) and him (unlucky). That dividing line is the screen. Instead of caring, Homeless Cat is allegory on exclusion, exhibited on the museum wall.
